The Oldest Thing I’m Wearing Today Can’t Be Washed

If jewelry could talk

Not everything you wear is made of cloth. The oldest thing I’m wearing today is not a piece of clothing but jewelry.

In my ear is a little gold round earring stud, from my very first set of pierced earrings. This earring has been around for 58 years, ever since I got my ears pierced when I was 12 years old.

I recently found the one and have been searching for its mate. It brings back so many memories of that time in my childhood. Beginning adolescence and thinking how happy those first pair of earrings made me. Times were good.

When I think about it, they have been transported many times through the years. From one new home to the next. They were packed away but always close. I hadn’t worn them for years. Not until I started having some problems wearing cheaper metals. I located it in my jewelry box and put it in. Never found the other one but still trying.

I will always look at this little earring and think about where I’ve been with it and without it. So many years, so many memories!
