Camping is Just Not For Me..Unless It’s in a Hotel

Have you ever been camping?

My experience with camping was many years ago but very memorable.

It was a big deal because I was only 20 years old and my first big trip away from home. I went with a close friend of mine from high school. We planned it for over a year. Apparently that wasn’t long enough.

We started out from the Mid-Atlantic and headed toward Canada. First night in Upstate New York where we stayed at a campground not far from the Canadian border. There was a leak in the popup tent we had and all my clothes got wet from the night before we left home.

So began the nightmare trip! Spent the night washing my clothes and glad they had facilities at the campground. Just to make a long story short, a three week trip ended in 5 days. Between car troubles and personality clashes, my friend and I didn’t talk for years. I was never so happy to get back home. Holiday Inn in Ohio had never looked so good before the ride home.

A word to the wise: Always pack warm clothes even in July when camping in Canada because those cold fronts can be a bit nasty!
