Lunch or Dinner….So When Do You Have Your Thanksgiving Day Meal?

photo1-turkeyI’m not really sure there is a debate going on about this question. However, for years, our Thanksgiving meals have been on the early end of the spectrum. When I say early, that would be 1 or 2.  Those times have always screamed lunch to me.

Next Thursday is no exception. I honestly don’t recall what time we ate when I was growing up. Our lunch/dinner this year will be at 1. I tried to go for a compromise of about 3, like our Christmas feast, but I lost that battle. Apparently the deal was since my in-laws always had it at 1, we would carry that little tradition forward.

I admit, the problem I have with it is when you eat so early, at some point later in the day, you might want to eat again. The last few years I would just double up on pumpkin pie and a glass of milk and call it a night. My daughter though reminds me that the early time is good for her and her husband. That way we get them for a meal and then his parents get them for one too.

I know my husband has no problem eating another plate of turkey.  After all, he usually sleeps off the first one anyway. Most people I have talked to, think it is a dinner time celebration. Normally, I would agree. But if you look at it a certain way, early eating might be healthier. Not sure why I am bringing that up, especially for this holiday, with all the carbs, and sugar, so on and so forth..

This girl is not stuffing herself to keep from eating later on that day. I will eat normally, and if I get hungry, which I know I will be, turkey sandwiches might not be a bad idea. So be it for lunch, or for dinner, just enjoy the cook’s efforts. Gathering of loved ones, isn’t that what it’s really all about!

  1. My family has always had the big Thanksgiving meal at about 1 pm. It makes it so much easier for those who have other family to visit for the dinner meal. Instead of having to make a choice and only go to one house, they can go to both in one day.

    1. This is true. They also usually don’t eat as much food, since they’re house hopping. Good news for us is more leftovers! 👍

so let me know what you think!
