How Covid-19 Has Changed Us …And Will We Know How To Be Ready for Another

The appearance of Covid-19 can be compared to a sudden attack on the world by an alien force from another planet. Covid-19 has not a discriminating bone in its cell makeup. It has effected everybody! EVERYBODY!!!

We have all received an education on what Covid-19 is all about. We know the contagion level is probably the highest of any viral illness we have ever seen. Also known is that it can either minimally or moderately effect us or kill us. We now also know that something that is not even a visible entity to us like a normal enemy, can cause such disruption worldwide. I know that in all of my lifetime, being 64 years, I have never witnessed anything like this.

I, like most individuals, have tried to follow the guidelines set up by the medical communities throughout the world, to vastly contain this disease from spreading more. Politics of course found its way into this as it does most controversies. I will not focus on that, because Covid-19 knows no party affiliation. How governments respond and handle such scenarios can’t always be determined by who is running the show. When you have something of this magnitude, it involves thousands. Plain and simple!

In my own life, I have taken the changes in stride, mainly because if I care about those people that I love and my fellow humans, I have no choice. I will do whatever I have to do to protect those around me and others. I have read many different stories on those effected by this terrible illness. Keeping others from contracting it is a priority. I understand the aspect of being stuck inside as getting to be difficult to do. However, sometimes we all have to do things we don’t like or agree with in life. Granted, this is huge, but necessary.

Covid-19 in retrospect will hopefully change how we view our own personal hygiene habits. Those should have been well established by now but let’s face it, many still need to be taught when and how to wash their hands, or to cover their mouths or noses when they cough or sneeze. Maybe this will get those lagging in that area, back up with the rest of us. How something so simple can help reduce the amount of germs in the air that we breathe.

Let’s Talk Social Distancing

At the end of 2020, I have no doubt that the phrase Social Distancing will be the most popular new saying of this year if not decade.

I think I’ve always practiced it to a certain extent, being an introvert. Staying home for me has never been an issue, especially as I’ve gotten older. I also am not a fan of crowds. How I got through music concerts when I was younger is amazing to me. Now that many more are familiar with the term, I have no doubt when this crisis has either subsided or lessened, the phrase Social Distancing will continue to run its course…….endlessly!!

It’s one of those terms that just sounds well, intellectually stimulating! Or to put it simply….cool! Anyway you view the phrase, it has played an essential role in keeping the spread of this virus at bay. The thing I’ve noticed is that most people are okay with it. Oh yeah, you have a few people who are just who they are probably under normal conditions being jerks, but the majority I think are doing the right thing for the population at large.

Social distancing may be a new term to many, but it’s part of our everyday existence. We automatically do it in the store, at ATM machines, anywhere that you have people around you that you don’t know or even with those that you do. Protecting ones space is a natural thing. It’s just human nature. So after things go back to a more routine normalcy for most of us, social distancing will continue, as it always has anyway, just now with a familiar name and maybe a bit less than 6 feet!

Has This Pandemic Changed Us If At All

Only time will tell this one. Human nature for many is to be changed by a horrific event if for only a short time at best. The events of 9/11 had that kind of effect on millions. However, even after those impactful events occurred, a time came where those not directly impacted just went back to a way of life reminiscent to the one before that day.

Are we capable of lasting changes to ourselves caused by something of this nature happening and perhaps happening again? That of course usually depends on the individual. Many will feel things but not necessarily wear the emotions on their sleeve. Others become more vocal for specific causes and want a hands on opportunity to make a difference. Then there are those who will just wait until the next time to react to whatever event takes place. Whichever you may be, is what you are comfortable being. No one should judge how a person reacts to a situation, or is effected by it long term. Let’s just for now do what we should do to see this pandemic make its way out of our lives. Just for now, let us all believe in one thing…getting rid of COVID-19!

  1. Great Post. We have followed the guidelines as believe its going to take a national effort to get through this quickly. But also not judging others who we have seen flout the rules as you never know their circumstances.

so let me know what you think!
