I mentioned in a earlier post, that I am a Hallmark Christmas Movie junkie. There is nothing more appealing to me than sitting by the fireplace watching romance and passion. Hallmark is debuting their Christmas movie season tonight. I have issues with that.
Hallmark Christmas Before Halloween
Okay, let’s begin by looking at the calendar. Today is October the 28th. Let’s see now, October 31st is Halloween. Christmas movies before Halloween? As much as I love these movies, even I have my limits. It’s bad enough when the stores are pushing the holidays down our throats months before they get here. Now television is getting into the act. Please Hallmark, take a step back. I know you can’t now, but maybe for next year, okay!
I have just gotten into autumn mode since our weather has been more late summer like. I need more cold and yes later, snow. I am just not ready to accept watching my Hallmark movies now.
Thanksgiving is the Benchmark
General consensus will now say that the Thanksgiving holiday is the gateway to all that is the beginning of the Christmas season. It has been that way for years now, so why adjust it. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the main catapult to the holiday season. The Hallmark Channel is just jumping the gun in my opinion. I don’t have issues with receiving Hallmark mailers showing their wonderful Christmas ornament selection and store debuts. That’s typical for promoting the holiday season. However, showing me romantic Christmas movies before I even get the trick or treaters is nuts! Sorry, I won’t do it.
Escaping Early is a Viable Option
Perhaps I’m being to rigid in my thinking on this. But this is how much I look forward to watching these movies around the Christmas season. Maybe Hallmark thought, with all the craziness going on around us, let’s give our viewers what they need…Christmas hope, love and good spirits. Okay, it’s an option to be had. Will I bite? Probably still not. After November 1st? Not sure. Do I need an escape now? Hell yes, because my own personal life is in a tailspin. Will I be stubborn and wait until right before Thanksgiving? Maybe.
My Plan of Action
Since it is the weekend, my schedule is pretty full anyway. I will be to tired to even care about watching a two-hour movie of any kind. I will let Halloween come and go first. Working will exhaust me for the evenings so staying awake during the week will be an issue anyway. Unless I really need a pick me up moment, I will hold out until sometime in November. At that time, the radio stations will begin playing their Christmas music and stores will be in full swing, along with television commercials. The holiday mood will present itself in full force, and then, yes, I will begin my Hallmark Christmas movie escape. Until then, let the season progress as it should. One holiday at a time!!
