Summer is Almost Gone…Was It Ever Really Here?

Labor Day Weekend is here. Which means summer is almost a distant memory. But with the crazy weather, was there ever really a summer?

                                       This Summer Seemed Colder

I do think this was a much colder summer than those in the past. Sure, we had a few times when the temperatures reached the 90’s, but overall, there weren’t many of them. We don’t have a heated pool, so it was not always the best temperature to go swimming in. Consequently, ours will be shut down this weekend, as will many others.

Going out on the motorcycle was problematic too. I have no problem riding in 90 degree weather. It feels better on my muscles and joints, my husband’s too. The weekends seemed to be either to cold or to wet. Riding in 60 to 70 degree weather in summer, is not what I call fun. The older you get, the warmer you want to be.

                                         Severe Weather Hit Everyone

Severe weather such as bad thunderstorms with hail and sometimes tornadoes, didn’t discriminate this summer. North, South, East, West, and Central, everyone got hit with bad weather at some point. The state where I live in, Maryland, is not known for many tornadoes. However, even this year, we had 2 bad ones, both on our Eastern Shore. No climate change discussion here, it was just a bad summer for storms.

Of course, this summer is ending horrific for those living in Texas, due to Hurricane Harvey. Unfortunate, but true, it seems that many destructive hurricanes occur in late summer. These storms will go on into the late fall and sometimes early winter. Mother Nature, usually has the last word on that one.

                                              Summer Memories Will Prevail

In spite of the strangeness of this summer of 2017, there will be memories having been made for many. Some good, some not so good, and probably some sad ones. As we move toward the autumn time of the year, let’s think about the concerts, the beach, the cookouts, and those who didn’t fair as well.

Everyday is a new day. Let’s all try to enjoy the end of the summer, as we did the start. Have a Good Labor Day Everyone!
