It is the first weekend in August. Yes, the summer is quickly coming to an end. Have you done all the things that you’ve wanted to do? Probably not, but that’s okay. No reason to feel guilty. I know I don’t!
Best Made Plans….Not Always
It starts with spring. The weather is warmer, and the lists get made, with all those projects, trips, etc..that you want to get done. August to me is a transitional month. It’s still summer, but there are hints all around us that fall is coming. So you look around and see that you never got to clean out the basement, if you did, then you never got to the landfill. That rock garden you planned for all winter, is still growing weeds and wild flowers. Where did the time go? I only have so many hours in a day.
There is that old saying that it will still be there tomorrow. Well, that goes for all the things my husband and I both planned. This weekend in August will consist of the usual, food shopping, assorted errands, and something a little out of the norm, my husband getting fitted for his tuxedo for our son’s wedding. That event in itself has brought about several extra special weekends, which took us out-of-town. Not a problem, because we love seeing our son and his fiance when we can, since they live in Philly. The projects will be there for later.
August, Then the Rest of the Year
I say that because it is so true. August weekends are cherished more by adults, than kids. August is our big vacation month. We don’t want to wish it away, but it will be that weekend before Labor Day. And we can’t wait until it gets here. Many kids will be back in school by then. Beginning this year, some will not be going back until after the holiday. That’s okay. They’re not my kids. Needless to say, not many August weekends left to carry out the goals set early on. This is the part where I feel no guilt. Maybe the rock garden will wait another season, but that junk can go to the dump, any time. I know my husband won’t have much time come September and October. Those months are another busy time of his business. His projects will definitely have to wait for another year. Before you know it, the weather will be to cold, and the days will be to short, that waiting for the weekends won’t matter by then. And so it goes.
Make the Most of Your August Weekends
There are 31 days in this month. Eight of those days are classified as weekend days. Make some plans. There are still so many things going on this time of the summer. All those little projects will wait again, for the best time to be done. Nice weather days are few and far between. My little rock garden will have a better chance next summer. There are more important things to do. Spend time with family and friends. Spend some quality time with yourself. August is the last chance to officially have some summer fun. After all, September summer fun, just doesn’t sound the same!
