There are multiple benefits to taking several mini-vacations, over the summer months. My husband and I have done this for several summers now. Due to his job, we need to plan carefully, since certain months are busier than others.
Late June to Mid July
Most people begin the summer vacation season with Memorial Day. Through the years, our vacation times varied, depending on my husband’s job. July was the usual choice, or early August, to coincide with the kids sports and school dates. The 5 or 7 days would go so quickly, and that was it. Vacation was done, until next summer. Well, now that the kids are grown and gone, we as a couple have made a few changes.
As stated earlier, we vacation according to my husband’s work schedule. We determined that to reap the benefits of rest and just spending quality time away from the stress and routine of our daily lives, that one long vacation wasn’t working for us. So began our two small or mini-vacations in the summer time.
As always, the beach is our destination of choice. Our first trip is for two nights usually, because it’s just enough to break up the summer, until our bigger trip in August. The benefits of the July trip are very simple. A small break, some sun, some sand, and out of the house to keep up our sanity for a bit longer.
We just returned this past Sunday from our first mini-vacation. Unfortunately, a Nor’Easter blew in, but we still managed to get some boardwalk time and dinners. No beach, but sitting on a bench just watching the power of the waves, was pretty nice too. This trip didn’t feature our usual oceanfront room, since we waited a bit to long to make reservations. But the view we had, still gave us the benefits of relaxing to the ocean and the sounds that come with it.
Benefits of August Vacations
The month of August is a great time to take a vacation, mini or not. We do 5 days, which is just enough for us to get a couple of beach days, and then whatever else we want to do. Yes, we do the beach again, and the same one at that. Since we live in Maryland, we are pretty partial to Ocean City, Md. Sorry New Jersey, but ours is the only real Ocean City on this east coast!
There really are benefits to going away in August. We picked the last week again this year, right before the Labor Day holiday. Some benefits are lower hotel rates, sales galore, and beaches are a bit less crowded. Of course, just being away at the ocean for us, is something we would like to make permanent one day if possible. It is our happy spot. This second mini-vacation comes before my husband’s second busy time of the year. This is the time we look forward to every year now.
Several Mini-Vacations Make Sense
Not everyone prefers to do something like this. Most people take one big vacation, be it one week or even two. It benefits us personally to do it this way. It’s much more economical, and breaking it up, makes the summer not seem so endless. We work hard, and treating ourselves to a couple of times away, just works for us. I would recommend it, especially in the summer. It goes so fast anyway. Enjoy it more than once!
