Time to take a political break this weekend. Summer is coming and there are lots of great things to do. So let’s look at some activities out there, that might interest you and your family, or just you.
Political Break..Take One
The political air these days is exhausting to say the least. Don’t take it into your weekend. Find something that has absolutely nothing to do with current events. For example, stay away from museums. Sounds harsh, but most do bring back into focus, things that have happened in history, and present day news.
Instead, check your local media for events going on in your area. Even in summer, you’ll find craft shows, outdoor concerts, many happening in the afternoon and early evening hours. Many are free or for a small price, you can enjoy music and food and totally relax.
For those who enjoy a quick weekend jaunt, the beach or lake is the thing. I live in Maryland, and no matter where you turn, we have a body of water somewhere. We also have mountains, so the choices are endless. If you don’t mind sitting in traffic for a bit, the journey is worth it. I favor the beach, but if you like a more quiet environment, then head to the hills.
Movie or Book It
If it’s not convenient to travel, chill at home. Catch a movie out or find one on your home screen. Stay away from serious political dramas and go for funny lighthearted features. Remember, keep it light. Many out there still enjoy reading. Do something different. Put down the Nooks and get a hardback. They still exist. Read an autobiography, or romantic novel. Once again, stay away from the politics and history section of the library or bookstore.
Have a Get Together
Nothing says fun like a spur of the moment gathering. Call a few friends, have them bring a few snacks and just chill on your deck, patio or balcony. Have a little cookout. Get some card games going and once again, keep it fun. Nothing serious. Throw away the anger that comes from talking politics to death all during the week.
Watch Who You Hang With
Just doing this one thing, could make your weekend wonderful. We all know people who are angry about everything going on today, and can’t stop talking about it for even a minute. Do yourself a favor and stay away from them, at least for a weekend. They may be your friends, but boy can they bring you down in a heartbeat. Hate to say it but, don’t even invite them over, thinking it will do them good. Some people can’t give it up, even on a weekend. See them another time. Invite the fun people who make you laugh and know when to give it a break too.
Weekend is to Regroup..Bottom Line
After long stressful weeks, no matter what your daily routine consists of, we all need that break from everything going on in the world today. Now I’m not saying to not catch the news headlines to stay up to date, just let it go after that. No conversations about politics, world issues, etc. etc. etc.. Give your brain a break. Mind over matter, like the old saying goes. Sometimes that mind stuff effects how you function physically. Two days is a good amount of time to practice being a vegetable, instead of a sponge.
