Memorial Day Weekend is Coming…What’s Your Pleasure

Memorial Day Weekend is almost upon us. The official start to summer will soon be here. What are your plans?

                                      Everyone Has A Tradition

The Memorial Day holiday is a lot like the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We all have a tradition that we may adhere to, in this case, celebrating the start of the summer. Maybe you go away, or you just stay home and cookout with friends and family. Memorial Day has a different meaning for everyone.

I wrote a blog last year about how the holiday at its core, is to remember those who served their country and lost their lives, defending our rights and freedoms. Also mentioned was the commercialism involved these days, on this holiday. Well, this certainly hasn’t changed, but now let’s look at it from a different perspective.

We are a great country. To be able to celebrate it the way we want to, individually on our own terms, is special. If not for those service men and women, how could we do so. I tend to believe that they would not judge those who want to shop for sales, or drive to the ocean for a weekend. It’s because of them that we have the choice.

                                                Remember To Say Thanks

If you have an American flag, and can hang it outside, do so. It is one way to acknowledge and honor those who served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice. A trip to Arlington National Cemetery, if you are planning a trip to our nation’s capital, is a must do. It’s truly a humbling experience in itself.

Enjoy The Time with Family and Friends

If you do anything this upcoming holiday weekend, remember to embrace being with family and whoever you may be hanging out with. Take this time to relax and think of the summer activities you might have already planned for yourself and your loved ones. We all deserve some warm weather and good barbecued food. Smell the cut grass and wild flowers.

Let’s not take any of this for granted. Our country is going through some trying times. But how about we all have some good times this summer. Be safe and have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
