Agree to Disagree…What’s the Problem?

Apparently the concept of agree to disagree, doesn’t exist anymore. At least for some people. I have a problem with that premise. Some of it has to do with freedom of speech. Just because I may not agree with you, doesn’t mean I don’t have the right to say it. Get over it!

                                      Your View Doesn’t Trump Mine

Pardon the pun here, but all of our views matter. No matter who you are, I will respect your right to say it. No, I don’t have to take your point of view. You don’t have to take mine. That’s how this works. I won’t control what comes out of your mouth, and likewise what comes from mine.

I go through this with members of my family. They have a problem with it too. But that’s okay. My opinion won’t change  because of it. My reason for this topic today is quite simple. When I work, I listen to talk radio. It passes the time, and I find it fascinating at best, how ignorant people have become.

Perhaps it’s a generational thing with me. I hear people in my age range, who are complete idiots. Some are politicians, and others are just like you and me. They don’t want to hear what anyone has to say, if it isn’t what they are thinking. Then there are those who will some day run this country of ours. That truly scares me. To be so young, narrow-minded and hateful. Where’s your tolerance?

Listening to many of these people, reiterates that this country is in serious trouble. When you have other countries gunning for us, where is the unity?  Not here, for sure. An example is the incident with Ann Coulter, the conservative speaker, who would have caused a riot at Berkeley in California, if allowed to address the student population.

I am no fan of hers in the least, but what I am a fan of is free speech. Some of what she says ticks me off, but so what. Let her say it and move on. But no, these so-called students of tolerance and diversity, can’t handle it. For that matter, neither can the professors. Talk about hypocrites. Berkeley knows all about peace, love and protest. I remember back when it was like that. Sad to be known now as small minds.

                                                         Solutions Only Come with Compromise

Which in turn might mean differing views. Let’s agree we all want the best for our nation and our population. But how about we agree that we might not want to head down the same path to get there. It doesn’t mean that you are right, or I am wrong, and vice versa. Listen to others, just like you want to be heard. Who needs a wall at the border, when it seems we already have it here!
