Earth Day is Important..Don’t Think Otherwise

Earth Day is celebrating its 47th anniversary. The sad thing is even after 47 years, some people still don’t get it!  Understanding what it has tried to convey to all of us through the years, should not be overlooked.

Our Actions Matter on Earth Day and Everyday

Don’t think that Earth Day was started on a whim. I can recall back in 1970 and being only 14, that people were abusing resources on this planet, and not looking at the long-term effect. Through the years we have seen how actions back then have finally come to fruition now. We all need to do our part.

So what can you do? You most likely do it now. When you put out that recycle can for pick-up, or when you bag your yard cuttings to use as natural mulch, you are taking part in helping the earth. And it doesn’t stop there. Many things can be recycled today. In addition to the items we usually consider recyclable, things such as electronics are also on the list. Many recycling centers now take these in a separate area since they must be handled differently than regular recyclables.

Old paint and paint cans can also be recycled. Just about anything you can now imagine, can be turned into something useful, just by taking the time to have it recycled. Many people create compost gardens for their personal use at home. Making your own fertilizer for your home-grown food is probably one of the smartest ways to keep it natural and healthy. Compost bins can be bought or made very easily.

Our carbon footprint needs to be challenged. Earth Day is making sure that people don’t forget about that too. https://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/urgentissues/global-warming…

Above is a link which will detail exactly how carbon emissions are effecting our planet. It’s still not to late to do something to reverse the damage that’s been done. The problem is everyone, including our government, needs to stop thinking in reverse. We need to keep moving forward.

I totally support the many scientists who are down in Washington, D.C. today, reminding our leaders, that the situation is serious. Everything on this planet is being affected by our actions.  All creatures of the earth are feeling the changes in our climate, and man’s part in the negative impacts it has had. Don’t stop what you’re doing, as small as it may seem to you.

We will continue to recycle and take steps to properly discard of waste material. It’s not rocket science. It’s our world, and as of now, the only one to be called home!

Happy Earth Day.   https://www.thoughtco.com/the-history-of-earth-day-1203691
