Aaron Hernandez hung himself in his jail cell early this morning. Choices that he made precipitated this tragedy. A 27 year old who had everything going for him. A great football career with a winning franchise, a good future. What makes someone go back to what was a negative existence earlier on, and not capture the here and now.
Hernandez is not unique. We see this everyday. Not only in sports, but in every aspect of life. Someone screws up, big time, and ultimately pays a price. Let’s not forget about that lowlife in Cleveland ,who shot an innocent man to death, and then proceeded to take his own life, only after being cornered by police. By all accounts he had been a decent person who had several personal issues going on in his life. Why did he make the choice that he did?
Many don’t always mess up to the extreme that they did, taking other’s lives, but the final solution for both, was not going to just sit in prison and rot. They would have rather ended their lives, then become another statistic. What they did was unforgivable. To throw away everything and become a common criminal, no pity there. In the end, was it all really worth it.
It’s sad because it was all for not.
We all make stupid choices at some point. There are those that will not effect our livelihood, or our families or other people. Living with those may still cause us pain, or make us unhappy. But there will be no regrets in just moving forward. Those who fall into the same category as Aaron Hernandez and the Cleveland killer, are looked at as cowards. I agree, but what makes someone do such a horrific thing, mental illness or just being an evil person.
I am surprised at the outcome of the Hernandez story. Keeping up with the news, I would listen to reports about his days in court. Looking at him, you never would have thought that he would take his own life. There was a smugness about him. But do we know what goes on inside. Obviously not.
In recent years, we have heard of many incidences where people have done some pretty stupid things. We can forgive some, but others we can not. What drives people who have so much going for them, to make a dumb move, where everything in your life is changed forever? I suppose Dr. Phil could do a series about it for years. The human psyche is fascinating in that respect. Isn’t having it all what life is all about? The choices you make could affect you for the rest of your life.
Age is not a factor. We know people of all ages who have made bad choices and decisions. Perhaps it’s just like rolling dice. Sometimes we just aren’t satisfied with the way things are, and need something else.
