I live in Maryland. I’ve hinted in previous blogs that I lived on the East Coast. Well, to be precise, I live in the Mid-Atlantic, in the state where steamed crabs and Old Bay rule. It is also a state where career politicians, who are old as dirt, also rule. They constantly sabotage anything that would greatly improve this state, due to partisan politics. They don’t care about the people.
So what do these politicians get off on, power, in all its glory. Being a registered independent voter in this state is difficult at best. I personally can’t stand most of them. However, I like our governor. The democrats don’t. And that’s only because he is a republican. Problem is many in this state like him.
One thing I learned as I got older was to vote on the issues, not on the party line. Many still do, and that is their choice. But don’t complain when things don’t go your way. Maryland is, for instance, not a state for small business. Perfect example, micro breweries. If special legislation goes through here, they are all but dead. I guess the lobbyists are scared, because local micro breweries are what beer drinkers want.
In a country where entrepreneurship should be encouraged for overall economic growth, unless you are part of a special interest group, you don’t have a chance in hell. Certain Maryland politicians haven’t figured it out yet that small business helps to create jobs. When residents figure it out one day, perhaps things will change. Many people have already left the state and moved to neighboring ones. That doesn’t even phase them. It’s a damn shame.
I am a Maryland pure bred. I love my state, but when politics is slowly destroying it, that scares me. There is nothing wrong with capitalism. Being independent and knowing that you can be your own boss, is appealing to many people. When you play with people’s livelihoods and their families, there should be limits. Voters need to start voting smart, not one party or the other because that’s how your parents voted.
Partisan politics is ruining this country. When will the population realize that most elected officials have their own agenda and don’t care about us. If they did, why is everyone so miserable these days with how things are? Clean it up on the state level first. I know I will come the next local election. And it can’t come soon enough!
