Health Care Insurance…A Conflict Where No One’s Immune

Health care is indeed a sensitive subject to discuss these days. It effects everyone, but in different ways.  Take it from someone who has worked in the health insurance field for over 35 years, it is not a one size fits all. And unfortunately, no one will ever be happy.

The Affordable Care Act has been a part of my life from day one. Having been involved on special projects, I have seen its positive and negative features close up. Yes, there are good things about it. Those are hopefully the things we will still keep. All of us were glad to see the pre-existing clause disappear from contracts. It was difficult to work with and unfair at times. I could understand the frustration members felt.

Dependents coverage until the age of 26 was great for many, myself included. It took care of my daughter’s health needs while she was in school. One less thing we all had to worry about. This is a popular feature, one I do believe will stay. We always hope that after that point of time, our children can fend for themselves, and make their own decisions on their personal health care.

Obviously, the cost is causing the biggest turmoil of all. I for one, can tell you, the cost sharing can be expensive. But it’s even more so when something catastrophic occurs and you have no insurance. People don’t take into account all the different parts of total healthcare. If people would just educate themselves on how much it costs to run hospitals, clinics and even doctors offices, maybe, just maybe, they can see this effects everyone!

There are many people who work in the health field. This affects them as much as it does everyone else. They have jobs to do and should not have to be concerned whether or not they are staffed properly or are short on supplies. Let’s be real about the situation. No matter what plan is decided on, there will individuals in this country who will hate it. Then those who will go with it, because they may not have a choice in the matter.

Religious groups, progressive groups, right groups, just name a group. There will be complaints, protests and whiners. And those who won’t care because they just won’t buy it anyway. So let’s see what happens. After a decision is made, hopefully this year, I will do a follow-up. Whatever happens, could affect my future as well. So we all need to know!
