President’s Day….A Day for Merchants and Consumers

Tomorrow is President’s Day. Aside from the fact that many have the day off, myself included, what is it’s importance these days?  Apparently, sales, sales and more sales. Isn’t America great!

Yes, I say this tongue in cheek. President’s Day is tomorrow. No matter what the holiday is in this great land of ours, comes with it the great sales of everything, from mattresses to cars. I blogged about this concerning Memorial Day last year. Granted, tomorrow doesn’t hold the same importance. However, the legs it has go running in all directions where selling commodities are concerned.

So I will be real here and not be a hypocrite when I say, if it was in my budget to go out and shop, I would.  Tax refunds are arriving to many, and what better way to stimulate the economy. Now is a great time to load up on items being put on the chopping block for end of season. It’s also a good time to catch early sales on spring and summer items.  Good for merchants and a no-brainer for buyers.

I can only speak to the weather in my region, but it is spring like at the moment. This is a good time to take advantage of items which could improve the appearance of your home and give it added value, whether it be inside or out. Many of the big box store such as Home Depot and Lowe’s are now advertising their outside products, and many at sale prices. They are also looking towards consumers buying home improvement paraphernalia such as paint and flooring, to refresh for spring.

And let’s not forget ladies, stores such as Macy’s and Kohl’s. I for one have always found good quality at reduced prices at these places. President’s Day is no different here. If you’re not a fashion monger and need to keep with trends, stock up for next fall and winter. Who cares about whether it will be on a runway? As long as it fits your needs, buy it. You may even find some Christmas presents to give for later this year. These stores look at this holiday as the beginning of many to come, to see how they may fair early in the year. You may even be able to buy a bathing suit on sale, since people going on  cruises are up at this time of the year.

Then for the really big items, let’s not forget about those car sales. You can’t escape them, since they’re all over the television and radio right now. Many go past tomorrow and through the end of the month. Read the fine print always, and you may be able to get a great deal. Once again, it all depends on what you are looking for in the market. Chances are you will probably find it. Dealers want to get rid of their 2016 stock to push the 2017, in order to make room for the 2018’s. Sounds complicated, but it’s just business, and we as consumers can profit from it.

I will not slam merchants for selling their items ad nauseam on this holiday. We are getting closer to spring and the rebirth process to begin.  There is nothing wrong in treating ourselves to something new and nice, for rewarding ourselves for the hard work that we do. And those out there who don’t believe in capitalism at it’s best, well you will find them right behind you at the checkout, holding their latte’s and  waving their credit cards in the air like the rest of us!
