Super Bowl Sunday…..Ho Hum

Sure, maybe I would be a bit more excited if my team were in the mix. But I have noticed over the last few years, I have lost some interest in the “Big Game”. To begin with, I will not be able to stay up and watch the entire event. It may start before 7pm, but between commercials and the halftime show, it won’t be over until around 11pm. No can do!

We have had a few parties in the past, which were fun, especially when our team participated in the Super Bowl. My shopping list consisted of many snack foods that we don’t eat on a regular basis. All this took place when we had a full house. The kids had friends over and it was a fun time.

Fun time now on a Sunday is an oxymoron. I get into a certain mind-set on this day, and it’s hard to shake. Unfortunately, having the Super Bowl on Sunday, doesn’t help either. I’ve heard  the talk of having it moved to a Saturday. Sign me up. There has also been talk by many of having it declared a national holiday so people can take off the next day. Get a grip folks!  Sorry, but it hasn’t acquired the status of President’s Day or Memorial Day, and it should not. It’s still only football!

There is also the famous Puppy Bowl, which occurs earlier in the day, on a television station not even related to the game telecast. It’s adorable, but it just doesn’t get me in the party mood. Maybe it is me.

I even asked my husband if he wanted me to buy anything special for today. His resounding no probably didn’t help my already indifferent outlook. I decided that there was no point to discuss it any further. It will just be a typical Sunday in our home, preparing for another work week. If that doesn’t get anyone excited, I don’t know what would.

It then dawned on me. We are older now and other things are just more important, even on Super Bowl Sunday. Our energy level is not what it used to be, nor is our pocketbook. It also doesn’t make sense eating loads of crap that will do our health no good either. Fact of the matter is, it’s just a game. Our life will not be effected by the outcome, one way or the other. Eating loads of queso and chips will do more harm.

To those who will be going all out, enjoy yourselves. Eat, drink responsibly and here’s hoping that your team wins.  And if you do call out from work tomorrow, face it, your boss will know the real reason why!
