January is not an exciting month to me. I’m glad it is almost over. It’s hard to be popular when you come right after Christmas. I refer to it as the”blah” month of the year. Let’s agree that December is a whirlwind month for most of us. Now, we must all come back down to earth, and go about our daily routines. Just how exciting is that.
I am happy that February is around the corner. When I walk into a store and see a Valentine’s Day display, all I think is hooray, almost over the hump! That is what January has become to me. This is the month where we can all chill, literally too. It’s cold, snowy, and dark. Depending where you live, you may not see the outside for a while.
The problem with January is that you start thinking about all the wonderful warm weather days ahead, and realize how long it will be until you get there. An example is, I booked our little vacation today for August. We had been back and forth about going this year since we have our son’s wedding in the fall. But the more I thought about it, we have to have something else to look forward too. It’s something we’ve done for us for a long time. Going to work has a bit more of a purpose now, besides just being able to pay bills. Plus it made my January day a lot brighter.
January is also tax time. Now this can be a good thing or a really bad thing. I’m hoping it’s a good one for us this year. Owing makes for a very sad January. Many municipalities understand that this is a month where people need a pick me up too. In the city and county where we live, there have been Restaurant Weeks. These have become very popular around the country. It gets people out to try new places to eat. It also benefits those merchants who may see a bit of a drop off in customers after the holidays.
A week from now, it will be a new month, the second month of the year. Things will start to liven up. There will be Ground Hog Day, The Super Bowl, Valentines Day, Presidents Day and spring training starts for baseball. I would say that’s a major upswing from January.
Not wanting to wish the year away, but face it, the last one went pretty fast. All I’m saying is, let’s get through these dreary days and think a bit forward. It can only get better from here!
