Meryl, Meryl….Just Say Thank You

Let me say from the get go, that this is not a democratic, republican or independent view. I will not get specific about where I stand politically. However, I will just say that I have always liked Meryl Streep. She is a good actress. I also respect her right to give a political opinion. Just don’t do it when you aren’t in that setting.  The audience tuned in to get away from it all for a while. Not to have it back in their face again.

Meryl and I  share the same birthday, June 22nd. She is a bit older than me, but not really the point here. Maybe it’s that protective nature, which is a characteristic of our astrological sign, that makes her feel the need to keep bringing up the same thing, over and over like a nagging mother talking to her child. Difference here is that most of us hearing this are not kids. I don’t care to be preached to by anybody.

People tune in to these award shows to look at fashion, stars and winners. It seems to be the thing more recently for celebrities to give their two cents worth, about the state of the world. Watching and reading news gives me a good perspective about what is going on, political or otherwise. I don’t feel like hearing a sermon from an actress, actor or rock star. Do you really know what the masses go thru anyway? Doubtful!

Sure, you all give to charities, which are tax-deductible, you ride around in expensive cars, have private jets, and can eat at any expensive restaurant you like. And I salute you. You all worked hard to get where you are. Some maybe harder than others. But that doesn’t mean that when I buy a ticket to see you perform, do I feel like getting a lecture. Freedom of Speech is a great thing. Just not when I pay $100 to see a famous singer sing. Stick to your craft. Leave the rest for when you go to Starbucks to grab a $10 mocha ice.

Meryl Streep alienated many people last night watching the Golden Globes telecast from home. This was relaxing time to get away from the crap consuming us daily. However, it turned into someone who just couldn’t be gracious enough to just say thank you and be done with it. Personally for me, I will view her a bit differently from now on. I have become that way with all these people, no matter what side they are on. I want to watch you act, or hear you sing or tell a joke. Not tell me how I should live my life, because frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn what you think and talking me to death won’t change how I think anyway!  Guess this is just a precursor to the Grammies and Oscars.  Watch out!

  1. I absolutely agree with you! I had been flipping back and forth between the Globes and another show, and as soon as she started her “sermon,” I turned the Globes off for good. I don’t care what anyone’s political affiliations or leanings are, but for some reason those who live and/or work in HOLLYWOODLAND feel the need to espouse their ivory tower views, especially when they can hold the rest of us captive by it. I do not understand why they believe I care what they think. I can form my own opinions without your help, thank you very much,

so let me know what you think!
