It’s tradition with me to start my indoor decorating the day after Thanksgiving. The time from now until Christmas is short, so I want us to enjoy the spirit for as long as we can.
I have learned over the years that simple and tasteful is yes, better. So I am not sure how it started, but I have a pretty decent Santa collection. My kids used to make fun of me for trying to make sure all of them had a place to be seen for the holiday. For once, they were correct. I realized that maybe, if I had a few more hundred square feet, it might have worked. So I took it down a notch.
My simple decorating is now focused on the pieces I really love ( hard to do since I love them all). The pictures show a few different ideas that I enjoy, to emphasize specific areas in certain rooms. I starting taking pictures on my cell, to refer to for later years, since I knew I would not remember how things were arranged.
Now that I am older, it doesn’t make it any easier to do, but this is my favorite time of the year, and some traditions prevail. Physical age regulates a few others, but we try to keep it the same. The atmosphere on the inside sets the tone for what is ahead. So go have some fun and decorate!
Beautiful decorations! I have pared down the amount of inside decorations I display in the last few years. It is getting more and more difficult to find the time and energy to pull it all together. However, I am looking forward to retirement when I will have all the time I want to decorate however I want. My outside lights stay about the same every year, even though each year I tell myself I will not put out as much.
Thank you! I admit it can zap my energy. That’s ok though, because they will be up until the 2nd week in January 👍
