My husband rides a motorcycle, if I haven’t already mentioned that in past blogs. I usually go for the ride, as I did today. It has gotten cooler for sure, and that hint of autumn dampness is in the air, especially early in the day. So the key is to layer it up. We left around 11a.m. ,so we could both get home early enough to rest up some. That right there tells you the age group we are in!
We both decided a few years back, that it wasn’t fun anymore riding on 65 degree days with a biting wind. Today’s forecast was for the low 70’s so out we went. Who’s to say if we will have anymore of these kind of days. I initially was hesitant but glad I decided to venture along with him.
There is something different about riding when the air has a bit of a chill in it, and trees are shedding their leaves or starting too. We did come across some vibrant colors today along the several tree-lined highways we traveled. You could even smell burnt wood in the air, as people have started up their fireplaces and wood burning stoves.
Sometimes, it just isn’t fun riding in the heat and humidity of summer either. I learned from day one that you need to keep your mouth closed most times, since anything flying finds you as a target. I would rather get attacked by a falling leaf, than a bug traveling around 50 mph any day. Fall riding also is just a pleasant experience, since dehydration doesn’t set in like it does at 90 degrees. Rule of thumb in this camp is you don’t ride with shorts or flip-flops. I’m fine with that thank you!
As I am writing this, my husband is taking his well deserved nap. I will finish up some last-minute chores, and settle in to begin a new work week. Riding with him is one of those things that I complain about sometimes, just because it leaves me no time to do other things those days. But I would not change it for the world. We are renegades, and do it for the love of riding and seeing the world from a bike’s perspective.
There are no groups, no posse, just he and I, spending some time together, and reminding ourselves about things we enjoy doing, together!
