Take A “Step Back” Day

So what is a “Step Back Day”? Well, if you work outside the home, it’s a day off. If you are a stay at home mom or dad or teleworker, it’s a day off. Whatever your situation, it’s that day you have to just get away from the usual daily crap, that might turn you into someone you don’t like.

Let’s face it, most of our lives are just one routine day after the next. Especially those of us who work for other people. My job consists mostly of numbers and policies. The brain gets fried quite often. At least once a month, I take personal time off. Many of us where I work, take lots of days like this to just regroup and do whatever we want to do.

Today, I feel the need to get back in touch with my home. That means some cleaning, reorganizing, and not driving anywhere. It might also be kicking back and watching my soaps for a few hours. It is the day I don’t care what I do, as long as I don’t have to work my usual job. These days really are quite beneficial, at least for me.

I am doing the things that I want to do, and not what others expect me to do. I consider myself more of an introvert, so I cherish days like this. Since now that I have no small children to care for, or any other relatives who need my attention, these are my days only. Selfish some may think, absolutely not. I spent more than half my life caring for others in one form or another, and I loved being needed. But now it’s time to think of me.

Yes, before I go any further, this is what we call a “Mental Health Day”. So as not to step on anyone’s toes or be to politically incorrect(which sorry I can be at times), I looked at it as stepping aside from the mundane daily tasks. Stress can kill. I for one am not going out that way. I decided a long time ago that no job or person is worth agonizing over. More people need to take days like this.

So for now, I will go back to my vacuum and toilet bowl cleaner. It is where I would rather be today, than sitting at my desk about 22 miles from here. TGIF!!
