Who New I Loved Football…Not Me!

It’s that time of year again. Football is back, be it college or the pros. And I love it! Yeah, that’s right. I was really not surprised how many women out there really do love the sport. Sure, those cute guys look good in those uniforms, but seriously, I can sit and watch it all day on Sunday, because I understand the game.

So I’m not sure when it started, maybe in the last 15 years or so. When my husband would find a college game on, his preference to the NFL, I sat with him just to spend some quality time. I know I got on his nerves, constantly asking him questions. He would always give me an answer though, so I could get the game better. When he was off on Saturdays, we would sit and watch games. Then on Sundays, we would watch the pros play. Beer and snacks became a tradition of course, be it by ourselves or with others around.

My love of the game is such that if people want to talk to me about anything, it has to wait, because I am watching a game. I even tune in to the local sports radio station when I am at work, to keep up on all the poop about my team. The guys at work always talk to me about sports, especially the football, since they know I can hold a conversation.

To say I am a fanatic is a bit of a stretch. I have spirit for my home team and have always been a fan, through the good and the bad. Maybe I was a fan years ago when I was younger, but never accepted it. I knew the names of players from all the teams. They were not total strangers to me. Perhaps now, it means more to me because it’s something to distract me from what sucks in this world. It truly gives me something to cheer for right now. I do believe others feel the same way. So here is to about 5 more months of being part of our nations favorite sport! Proud to say I’m a fan. Hope you are too!
