I’m Old School..No White After Labor Day

Those of us who have been around for a few Labor Days, know the big controversy that has surrounded the wearing of white after this holiday. Memorial Day was the official day to begin wearing white. I guess it all depends how you were raised. Well, my mom taught me it just looked strange to wear such a light color any other time than the late spring or early summer.

So for years, I have followed that mantra. I was happy to see that other mothers must have passed the same thinking down to their daughters who were my age. There was no reason not to pass it on to my child. Why I even made sure my husband didn’t wear white shorts or tops after Labor Day. Well, this is where the tradition ended.

The first time I saw my daughter wearing white after Labor Day, was around Christmas. I was mortified. Winter!..It wasn’t even winter white ( yes there is such a thing), but bright white, summer white. The reply from her was something like, “Geez Mom, get over it”. “Times have changed”, she said. Okay I get it, but I don’t have to get over it.

So starts a new tradition. I guess we can call it anything goes! To each his own. I will stick with my old ways. It works for me. I have officially shunned all exterior white clothing and shoes. This is what I know, and what I will continue to do. I am not ashamed to follow an old trend, because I know that I am not the only one out there to do so. So that is fine with me!
