Everyone who knows me steers clear of me when I have to go back to work after a vacation. I warn my husband and he just laughs because he knows the drill by heart. I love my time off from work. Putting it mildly, I can be a bitch at this time. Maybe that’s because I’m ready to just retire.
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I am tired of my job. I’m also tired of cleaning, cooking and grocery shopping. The difference is I am not at work when doing those things. I hate the drive, the quotas, and having to wake up early to get out early.
Retirement for me will be a dream come true. I work with some women who think the world will end when they stop working. Give me a break! You seriously don’t have a life? The job we hold is not a career builder unless you want it to be. Hence, you have done the same thing for most of your time here. Retirement might actually give you the excitement you need.
I knew women who left, only to come back because they were bored. OMG! Give me a chance to be bored, and sleep in, and get to projects I have no time or energy for now. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, finances are keeping me from achieving the goal. I have no one to blame but myself. Certain other circumstances also prevailed due to no fault of our own. However, unless I win the lottery or invent the next big infomercial idea, I am stuck for now. But when I do retire, bored will not be part of that vocabulary.
Retirement for me means exploring new things in this stage of my life. Some women my age feel it’s not about them now. That is just not true. Make it a happy start of a new beginning. It is about you first and then those around you. It really is what you make of it, and I hope to find that out one day soon!
