In honor of the Olympics going on now, it’s only fitting to write about a winner. The inspiration for this blog today is my husband. He has made me a winner in so many ways.
We have been together for 34 years now, married 32. He came along at a time when I was exiting an abusive marriage. I view this one as the real deal, in every way that counts. He made me believe that not all men were horrible. Our relationship produced two wonderful kids and memories, both good and not so good, that we can share. He had to deal with me and all of my insecurities too, which was no easy task.
Our values on what marriage and family meant to us, have been at the core of our relationship. As mentioned earlier, we have been through good and bad times. The strength of that core has gotten us through some rough patches. The truth is when you love someone that deeply, you can make it through almost anything.
It’s been the little things he’s done for me over the years, and still to this day. Simple things like watering the plants for me, doing dishes, stopping to get dinner for us on busy nights, or just letting me know that he’s on his way home. We’re older now and here by ourselves so we talk more too.
The talk is about where should we retire or looking forward to becoming grandparents one day. These are the topics now. I can think of no other man I would want to share these experiences with today. This is what makes me a winner. So the reason it came to mind today, is because we spent the day together.
Mundane things to others, such as running errands and sitting down to have lunch at home. And since my daughter occasionally reads my blogs, let’s just say we also spent some extra special quality time together!
So I don’t need a gold, silver or bronze anything. I won the best prize of all. A man who I am still crazy about after all these years!
