This is the one question I ask myself everyday. It’s not that I can now, but what about a few years down the road. My husband and I don’t envision ourselves eating the cats food, but not prime rib either.
The harsh reality of it all is, we may have to work longer than we might prefer. Perhaps, we could have planned better. I’m not sure two older adults can live on one spouse’s retirement funds.
I read articles everyday about how the baby boomer generation will have a difficult time, because many waited to long to build that nest egg. There are those in that generation who just don’t have enough, even to get by. Fact of the matter is, a good part of the boomer population may out live their resources. How scary is that premise?
I made sure that I never touched my savings for anything. Back during the economic crisis in 2008, I took a major hit, as did so many of my peers. We knew it would never go back to what it was, and growth has been steady but small. I know people who borrowed on their 401 and are still paying them back, and I’m talking those who are 60 and over.
Have a plan and try to stick with it. My husband and I do, and slowly but surely that little light is appearing at the end of the tunnel. Not the train!
We are never to old to learn lessons about money and finances. We can only hope that our children and theirs do a better job of preparing for the future. Like the old saying goes, better late than never!
